"Infectious grooving, clever composing and audacious improvisation... One of the best" — John Fordham, The Guardian

Janette Mason is a composer, arranger, producer and performer with a diverse musical career.

She toured extensively throughout the 90s with artists like Oasis, Pulp and Robert Wyatt and can be heard on the CD soundtrack to the recent Disney release, Cars 3.

She has proven to be a consummate musician and a standout talent in Jazz, Pop, Indie, Rock and World Music.

Her latest project, Red Alert, is inspired by her passionate belief that jazz needs to constantly evolve to attract a younger, more diverse audience.

Her unique contemporary compositions, drawing on her wide-ranging influences from Dave Brubeck to David Bowie and Herbie Hancock to Goldfrapp, combine interesting timescapes and modern beats with a cinematic texture and are underpinned by a mature and inventive jazz vocabulary. Her vision is brought to life by the explosive combination of George Hart on drums and Tom Mason on Bass and is a direct musical response to the political and social challenges now facing us all - hence the name Red Alert.

Janette's powerful and rhythmic approach to the piano is subtly fused with synthesizers to create a musical journey that is as engaging as it is thought provoking.

Janette was nominated for a Parliamentary jazz award for her second trio album Alien Left Hand and she reached the Grammy ballot for The Live Smoke Sessions with Lea DeLaria for which she took on the dual roles of arranger and producer. Her music has been described as similar to E.S.T and The Bad Plus.

Talinka

15 May 2019 (yes...2019)

Talinka

Talinka creates a new, distinctive sound that explores the unique and diverse journeys of four British musicians: Jenny Bliss (a baroque virtuoso), Yaron Stavi (one of Europe's leading bass players) Gilad Atzmon (an internationally acclaimed jazz saxophonist with an affinity for ethnic sounds) and his wife Tali, whose singing has been paired with her theatrical career.

The music is at times haunting, connecting with deep moody jazz standards and a new international form of World Music. In the process it touches many bases, with its wide-ranging and evocative arrangements, while Tali's perceptive and intelligent lyrics enhance the compositions.

The outcome is a natural breathing, deep and spacious sonic adventure. The unusual choice of instruments and combination of personalities creates an amalgam of past and present, East and West. A natural continuum between ethnic, jazz, tango and Early Music, transcending musical boundaries.

As Jazzwise critic Andy Robson, wrote when reviewing the CD: "There's an airy spaciousness about Talinka's music, a music that is never far from the taste of tears."

When first hearing Tali's debut CD, legendary musician and Soft Machine founder Robert Wyatt commented: "Since hearing Ms Atzmon's discrete contributions to records by Gilad and friends, I've long wished she would make a record revealing her own deeply personal approach to music. And here, at last, is that record."

Tali Atzmon (Vocals), Gilad Atzmon (Bass Clarinet, Soprano Saxophone, Accordion, Guitar), Jenny Bliss (Viola da Gamba, Baroque Violin, Flute, Vocals), Yaron Stavi (Double Bass).

"It seemed there was nothing this enterprising quartet couldn't do to make the most of a wide range of material. The gig also illustrated how live music based on recorded material can sound refreshingly different, even allowing for the absence on this occasion of pianist Frank Harrison, another OHE member. That's jazz." — Nigel Jarrett, Jazz Journal
